Waterberg Game Park

The children spent hours enjoying the three small pools and water slide, and most of the resort was reachable on wheelchair friendly paths, including the restaurant and pools. We had a very nice few days with family at Waterberg Game Park. Two lodges are accessible, with nearby parking and a ramp up to the accommodation. The rooms are spacious. For wheelchair access, we found the shared bathroom better than the en suite. They provided a chair to use in the shower when we asked, though there were no grab rails during our visit. Staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating.

The accommodation was the best part for me, neat, clean and roomy, with all the dishes and utensils supplied. I also loved seeing the animals wander freely past where we were staying. Breakfast was delicious, but dinner was a letdown: the burger patties were undercooked and the fries had no flavour, so I asked the kitchen for chip spice. It felt like different chefs had taken over. The place seems much better suited to young children than adults. The brochure listed family activities for particular days, but none happened on Saturday. We were also disappointed to learn that a game drive needed at least four people, and there were only three of us. Was the three and a half hour drive worth it? No.

There’s no network signal at all, which really helps you switch off and relax. Waterberg Game Reserve is tucked right into the bush, with buck of different kinds and warthogs wandering around. The facilities are in great shape, with a swimming pool, games room, bar and restaurant, more pools, game drives, hiking routes, tennis, mini golf and paddling activities. A peaceful getaway with plenty to keep you occupied.

Jackie deserves a special mention for an awesome game drive. I’ll definitely be back at Waterberg Game Reserve. The accommodation and staff were faultless, and there’s lots for adults and kids, from tennis and put-put to an air trampoline and games rooms. It felt very safe, the short hikes were lovely, and the setting was peaceful. The restaurant food was good too. There are two dirt roads linking the tar road to the resort, one about 8-10 km and the other around 30-35 km. Which one is shorter depends on where you’re coming from, so it’s best to ask reception. Yes, I’ll be visiting again.
