There’s plenty of room and it’s very comfortable and luxurious, with five-star amenities. I especially loved the cosy fireplace and the couches you can sink into. By the river, it’s quiet and easy to relax. Marie, the hostess, goes out of her way to make the stay memorable. A real gem, and I can definitely recommend it for a family break.

Marie, our host, is such a caring, lovely person. She’s always ready to offer advice or help. This has become our little sanctuary, and we’ll come back for getaways whenever we can.

The hosts walk you through the house and explain how everything works, including the state-of-the-art alarm, then leave you to settle in. It sleeps eight and has all the comforts of home, plus canal frontage and a jetty. There’s even a two-person canoe for exploring the river and birdlife. Personal touches like chilled wine, tea, coffee, milk, sugar, and biscuits mean your break starts straight away. You can walk to restaurants if you don’t feel like cooking or having a braai on the lovely stoep overlooking the canal. Bring a fishing rod! It’s a rare bargain for such a budget-friendly price, and I’m sure you’ll come back.
