51on Church

I left exhausted after a night without sleep, then had to drive back to Johannesburg in the morning. The rooms were full of huge mosquitoes, and it was impossible to sleep. The owner didn't help or even spray the room, despite the problem. From breakfast to the sleeping arrangements, it felt like the owner didn't care about customers. It was a nightmare, and I wouldn't recommend staying here unless things improve seriously.

The beds were clean and comfortable, and the Wi-Fi signal was really strong. It's a peaceful, quiet place, with shops nearby for essentials. The host was patient and welcoming, and the beautiful place has a nice homey feel. Highly recommended.

The decor was lovely and homey, and breakfast was great. But the linen was grubby and covered in hair, and the towels were damp from someone else's use. The toilet seat was broken, too. When we complained about the unwashed sheets, the owner was extremely rude and shouted at me. They brought the same sheet back and just brushed off the hair. I knew it was the same one because it still had two black dirt spots on it. His shouting over my complaint left me traumatized.

What made this place worth every cent for me was how little the load shedding affected us. The owners had spent the time and money to Eskom-proof the guesthouse, so the lights stayed on and the water still worked. I barely noticed when the power was off, which matters a lot when I'm traveling for work with two dogs. It's a little slice of normality for us, with cozy furnishings, a fully equipped kitchen, a lovely small garden, and a pet-friendly attitude. The decor is fabulous and the hosts are lovely. If you're lucky enough to find a room available, book it without thinking twice.
