Welkom Inn

The pool looked like it could be a nice spot in December with friends and drinks, and the reception had a pleasant old-fashioned feel. The cleaning lady did a great job, even folding my underwear, which caught me off guard and was embarrassing. She deserves a tip. The cleaning lady, security staff and night receptionist tried to explain the many problems, but it didn't help. I left feeling as if things were still crawling over me, and I think those staff deserve jobs elsewhere because this place should be shut down. I arrived at night and kept getting lost trying to find the hotel, though I’ll blame the GPS for that. I had booked two nights but checked out at 5 AM on the second night because I couldn't take any more. It was overpriced and falling apart, more like an abandoned psychiatric hospital in a horror movie than a place for guests. It’s the worst place I've stayed in South Africa so far. The fridge in my room was unbearably loud. The window kept unlocking itself, or someone may have been unlocking it. Towels were an unpleasant cream-white, and I had to ask for extra. The carpets were torn and smelled awful, and the Wi-Fi didn't work at all. There was no drinking water in the room, so I had to ask for a jug of tap water. Breakfast was poor quality, like something from a cheap B&B. The juice tasted dusty, probably because the machine was dirty. Dinner had been promised but never came. The pool had potential, but that was about it. Complete disappointment.

The staff were professional and welcoming, but the rest of the place looked appalling. The yard wasn't cared for, and room 172 smelled as if the bathroom hadn't been cleaned properly. The carpets set off my sinuses straight away, and the dining area smelled burnt. They need to prioritize ventilation, especially with those carpets making the air stuffier. There was food dropped on the dining room carpet too. My bedroom had no burglar proofing. I woke up to what’s shown in the attached picture, which was appalling. This cannot be a four-star guesthouse. They should remove the carpets and use white linen covers and white towels.

We couldn't sleep because of the filth and things crawling over our arms. Our friends moved out with us, and we're still struggling to get their money back. During our conference lunch, there were cockroaches, so I refused to eat. The place needs a complete revamp: there were roof leaks and overflowing toilets. Absolutely disgusting. Don't be fooled by the pictures. I have photos of what I saw.

No air freshener, and the carpets smelled so bad they took the prize. The towels were old and smelly, the carpets too, and the bathroom smelled like a poor. There was no electric blanket, fridge, microwave or Wi-Fi. The sheets and pillows were dirty, with what looked like yogurt spilled on them, if it was yogurt at all. The smell and dirt were awful.
