Our travel agent booked this for the drive to Kruger. The pictures looked good, but the actual place was even better. The rooms were spacious, the beds and bedding very good, and the garden and pool area were lovely and well kept. Dinner's beef was delicious, with a good cut, great texture, and cooked just right. Service was attentive too, even bringing me a double espresso very early in the morning. It also felt very safe and secure.

The Lodge is easy to reach and well placed for seeing what the area has to offer. The rooms were large, beautiful, spotless, and had everything we needed. Staff were lovely and incredibly helpful. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. We had a great experience and will be back.

We had a great stay at Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge. The rooms and bathrooms were large, clean, and tidy. Our room had a huge king-size bed, lovely furniture, a couch, a smart TV with enough channels, and a small kitchenette with a fridge, sink, and tea and coffee station. There was also a cupboard with a safe and extra blankets. With only nine units, the lodge felt quiet and peaceful. Reception and dining areas were neat and attractive, the pool was clean and calm, and breakfast was very good. We didn't try dinner, though it sounded amazing. The staff were friendly and on the ball, and the owner/manager was helpful, offering good advice for sightseeing and travel. In the evenings they lit a bonfire, which was a lovely way to end the day. We had hot chocolate and a good conversation with another couple, sharing highlights from our trips. I'd recommend the place.

This really deserves five stars. The rooms are lovely and exceptionally clean, and the bathrooms feel luxurious with slippers and robes. The pool and gardens were peaceful and relaxing. We felt confident inviting outside guests to eat with us, which isn't something I often say about a restaurant. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all excellent, with plenty of variety and generous portions. The food was master-chef quality. The professional manager also creates a happy atmosphere for everyone. Special thanks to Princess and Precious for anticipating what we liked. Our stay went so well that we extended it, and we hope to return soon. This is the kind of standard hospitality should meet.

Communication is the biggest issue here. Orders weren't written down, so they got mixed up. We waited an hour for a pot of tea, had to ask for water, then were told we were limited to one 330 ml bottle each. Outside food wasn't allowed, and there was no cutlery in the rooms, which might have been okay if the omelettes hadn't been served raw. The food also seemed premade rather than fresh, pastries tasted five days old, and there was only one wine available. We wouldn't have complained about the wine if there had been more choice. The managers and staff were kind and tried to put things right. I think they need clearer guidance, and the owners should train and support them on customer experience. If the tea rule was one pot per person, they should have told us or charged us. If they were going to be strict about water, they could have charged for it too, LOL. From the way you responded, it seems you don't intend to improve or care about customers. I'm sorry if the constructive criticism offended you. Some places appreciate honest feedback.
