Drakensberg Sun Resort

The hotel has a lot of charm, especially with the fireplace and Christmas decorations, and it serves the best margarita in the Berg. The views were good, and we enjoyed the boat trip. Thomas, the skipper, was friendly and shared lots of information with the kids. The buffet meals had a good variety, and the staff were always happy and friendly. Our rooms had good linen and were cleaned properly. The kids' escape room was great, but some equipment, like bats and balls, needs replacing. I'd also suggest upgrading the women's toilets at reception, since that's the first thing people see.

The mountain views were breathtaking, and the hotel facilities were top-notch. We had an issue with the air conditioning, but when we called, Trannie at reception answered calmly and politely, arranged help quickly, and the problem was fixed promptly. Her warm welcome and friendly manner also made check-in seamless. She was still in training, but her positive attitude didn't show that, and we appreciated her honesty. We recently had a wonderful stay at Drakensberg Sun, and the team's service, especially Trannie's, stood out. We'll definitely be back.

The rooms and common areas could use fresh paint, updated colours, and a modern refresh. The rooms are comfortable, neat, and well maintained, though a bit dated, and the bathroom in particular could use an update. The shower felt quite small. We stayed from 10 January to 12 January, two nights in a Superior Family Room with two adults and one child. The hotel is lovely, very clean, and has some of the best views in the area, with excellent service throughout. The dinner and breakfast buffets had a great variety, and the food was well prepared and enjoyable. We noticed the weekend breakfast selection was wider than Monday's. The pool area was pleasant, and the heated water felt comfortable. The gardens and grounds are beautifully kept and make for a relaxing atmosphere. The kids’ club urgently needs some TLC. It's dark and gloomy, and there's not much for kids to do or use. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

This was our third year in a row visiting for six days in the first week of January, because our kids love it there. The relaxed atmosphere and great hiking trails gave the adults a chance to recharge, and every department provided excellent service, going out of their way to make our stay memorable. My four stars are because the chalets and rooms are dated, and the Sunrands I earned during this stay still haven't been allocated. Special thanks to the entertainment team, Afrika, one of the managers, Mr Nxele in the restaurant, and Hlengiwe from housekeeping, who serviced our chalet.
