I still have great memories of staying there a few years ago. It was the dry season, so the river was more like a creek. Even so, dinner on the deck was great. Two hippos kept battling over something, and we saw a fight every evening for the three nights we were there. Another night, I was fast asleep when the workers started yelling. I heard a sound that made it clear something huge was eating the grass. Looking out the window, I saw a giant hippo about 10 feet away, tearing out huge mouthfuls. I’ll never forget that trip. Take their rule seriously and don’t leave your cabin at night without a security escort. I’m a believer 😂😂

We stayed in the family chalet, went fishing the next day, and took a sunset cruise with Uncle Aggrey. He was a great guide, spotted wildlife, and told us the birds’ names. He was wonderful with the kids and spoke to them like adults, which we really appreciated. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the service felt like heaven, and the food was good. The meals came with beautiful, colourful vegetables. We had a great time. Thank you, Hippo Lodge 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

The Kafue River setting is beautiful, and the lodge has a rustic feel. The staff are efficient, friendly, and always ready to help with a smile. The food is five-star. I highly recommend it.

If you enjoy birding on the river in the afternoon or a relaxed game drive, Hippo is a delight. There are lions, Elephants, and plenty of antelope, and the staff are fantastic.
