The Ace Hotel

The quiet, safe location in Salama Park/Avondale, Lusaka, is handy for shops and restaurants. We had delicious breakfasts, and the service stayed excellent throughout. From arrival, the staff went out of their way to make me comfortable. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and my room was clean, modern, and well kept, with what I needed for a relaxing stay. Ace Hotel offers comfort and good value. I’d definitely stay again and recommend it to visitors to Lusaka.

Our toilet wouldn’t flush, there was no hot water in the morning, and the bed was painfully hard. Breakfast was a mess too. The night before, we’d said 9am, but they called at 7am to ask again, then called at 8:30am to see if we could come down already. We got there just before 9am and didn’t get served until 9:30am, and the food still had cling film on it. The two stars are for the receptionist on the second day, who helped me get change for my taxi. Without that, I’d have given one star.

They refused to clean the place, saying it only gets cleaned at check-out. The service was pathetic, with no courtesy at all. This place needs proper management, first and foremost.

There were frequent disturbances from outside, the mattress was much too firm, and the restaurant food was below par. I also noticed there were no female guests at the hotel, which made the atmosphere feel less inclusive. With these shortcomings, I wouldn’t recommend staying at the Ace Hotel.
