Hillside Manor

We only got to spend one night at this lovely place, which was a shame. The old Manor has beautiful antique furniture and a well-kept garden, and it felt safe. Our hostess was very friendly, the apartment was spotless, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was a perfect English one.

The hostess of the Manor was so personable and helpful, and really made our visit memorable. It's a beautiful property with tidy gardens and a nice pool area.

This was my second stay, and I can't fault the place otherwise. I just haven't managed to get a warm shower every time. Maybe I'm showering too late, but the water always seems cold to me. I was also taken aback to see cockroaches, especially since I'd just come in with my takeaway. It didn't put me off completely, so I'll come back again.

Hillside is a leafy, middle-class residential suburb of Bulawayo, and the Manor sits nicely there. The building mixes old Victorian architecture from the colonial era with more modern symmetry and clean lines. It's a good spot for small weddings, events, or brunches, with varied food at prices below what you'd expect for somewhere premium. There are a few quirks, but it's worth the drive.
