You’ll want a car here. With one, it’s easy to reach several good shopping spots and get around Harare via Harare drive. The road outside is a bit rough, about like much of Harare, so keep that in mind if you have a small car. I enjoyed staying at this quiet, friendly guest house and would come back. It was excellent value. My inside room was clean, with simple hardwood furniture and a little fridge I really appreciated. Food was simple and good when available, but it wasn’t always available and was made to order. The place seems mostly off grid, which makes sense with the frequent cuts. Some sockets work and some don’t, so it’s useful to know. There was plenty of hot water. The sink dripped and needed repair, though it still worked. My room was a little noisy at times because it was close to reception, but it wasn’t too bad. Thank you.

The place was peaceful and quiet, so we could rest without being disturbed. The rooms were clean and neat, and food and drinks were available, with meals cooked to order. Wendy at reception was friendly and nice. We enjoyed our stay at Royal Guest house.

There’s backup power now, so outages aren’t a worry. The service has improved since I last visited.

The people were great, and the atmosphere had a local feel. My two days weren’t the best, but they weren’t the worst either. The inside rooms have very little privacy, and reception noise carries straight into the room whenever guests arrive or ask questions. The washroom was extremely small and echoed badly. The food I got on my last night was awful, maybe because it cost $3, I don’t know. Go with low expectations. If you just need somewhere to crash and don’t have activities planned, you might consider it.
