Mountain Hostel Tarter

The location is excellent, close to the ski lifts, and there's storage available. After a long day skiing, the jacuzzi and sauna are just what you need. Mar and Mark managed the hostel brilliantly and were helpful throughout our stay. The shared spaces were consistently clean and tidy. An excellent hostel.

The small size of the hostel creates a really welcoming atmosphere, and it was easy to chat with other travelers. My four-night stay was so enjoyable that I wanted to extend it. The terrace has a nice view and a pool, while the beds are comfortable. Free coffee and tea are a nice touch, and a second towel can be rented for just 2€, which suited me perfectly. The owners are kind and quick to respond, and even the kitchen was clean. The hostel is also a good base for hikes, whether you walk from there, take a bus, or ask the owners for probate transport. I wish I'd used that option to cut down on walking. Only a few details could be better. The shower's standard temperature is too hot for me and can't be adjusted. The terrace sauna is closed in summer, which was disappointing because I had been looking forward to it, though perhaps it could open on request if enough guests are interested. The pool water could also be warmer. I had a great stay, would return anytime, and would recommend it.

What I liked most was the relaxed, family-hostel atmosphere. It felt almost like staying in someone's home, and self check-in was quick and easy. The staff were very kind and accommodating, everything looked clean and updated, and there was a tasty restaurant attached. I've stayed in around 30 hostels, and this one really impressed me. My only criticism, as an American, is that the rooms don't have AC. That said, even in summer the nights are so cool that opening a window makes the temperature perfect for sleeping. The hostel is an ideal base for skiing in Grandvalira because the slopes are easy to reach. After a day in the mountains, it's comfortable whether you want a quiet rest or a relaxed après-ski atmosphere. Everything was exceptionally clean, and the accommodation was cozy without being expensive. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming for solo travelers, groups, and families. The staff were friendly, helpful, and happy to share local advice. I couldn't recommend it more and will definitely return. Thank you for everything Marc & Mar!
