The location is the strongest part of this hotel. Equipment rental is across the street, the gondola and ski pass office are literally a minute away, and the area is reasonably quiet and easy to find. The free lockers were useful, the showers always had hot water and good pressure, and the bar was cosy and rustic, with a welcoming fireplace. The spa looked clean and well equipped, and the lady working there was very kind despite the language barrier. The hotel was clean even though it felt tired, and housekeeping helped when I forgot the do not disturb sign. Breakfast was generally fine, although hot coffee was hard to find and usually only lukewarm. I stayed 6 nights over Christmas/New Years with a group of 7, but as the only single occupant I can only describe my room. It was small and old, with two beds but barely enough space for my case, which stayed on the spare bed. The bathroom was smaller than those of my companions, the toilet shared the shower room, and there was no bidet despite one being advertised. The decor needs serious updating. Carpet was peeling, plaster was coming away in the bathroom, and the ceiling had strange tiled carpeted squares. The radiator was far too large, had only off or full power, and its broken control had to be fixed by me. The bathroom extractor was practically useless, and the hard bed combined with poor temperature control made sleep difficult. Dinner on the first night was awful service-wise. We waited from about 8pm until after 9:30pm to eat, drinks took ages, portions varied, and the croquettes were cold. Other guests arrived later and left before we received our mains. The food was only okay, but we avoided the restaurant afterwards. Apart from one waitress after we complained, nobody apologised. The front desk was not very friendly, possibly because of the language barrier. Several room and locker keys failed, and parking cost 12 euros a day even when the car stayed for less than half a day. With the price and claimed 4-star standard, I was disappointed and probably wouldn’t recommend it.

Hotel Rutllan made a great mountain weekend for us and our cat. The hotel is beautifully designed, warm, stylish, and immediately relaxing. Cafés, bars, and restaurants are under 5 minutes away, while the cable car is right beside the hotel. Parking was convenient too, with four free spaces outside, a free outdoor hotel car park on the right, and a paid indoor one on the left. Our nervous cat settled in straight away, which says a lot about the calm atmosphere. Vanessa at reception remembered us from our phone booking and went far beyond what we expected to help with everything. Breakfast had a generous buffet, while dinner changed daily with a “menu of the day.” Desserts were buffet-style with sweets, fruit, and cheese. Numa was a professional and caring waiter who always paid attention to us. The spa had a heated indoor pool with hydrothermal jets, a Turkish bath, a traditional sauna, and a dry sauna. The traditional sauna was especially enjoyable after the cold. Vanessa arranged our massages in advance, and Jesús gave me one of the best massages I’ve ever had. We slept incredibly well afterward. We stayed half-board with the spa package and would absolutely choose Hotel Rutllan again if we return to this side of the Pyrenees. Highly recommended for people and pets.

The building is spacious and cosy, and the location is excellent. The spa was quiet, clean, and very pleasant. My only real complaint was the room’s musty smell, which reminded me of very old furniture.

I only stayed for one day, but the room was spacious and pleasant. The receptionist was friendly and smiling, and I enjoyed relaxing in the spa. I was satisfied with the visit and would recommend it.

The hotel fits the charm of the town beautifully, almost like a comfortable cabin in the woods, which gives it a lovely winter and ski atmosphere. Staff were attentive and happy to help with recommendations or practical requests. Ski equipment can be stored securely, and guests can even shower after skiing after check-out. The gym is well equipped and free to use. The spa costs extra, but it’s pleasant too.
