The first serious problem happened on 15th March. My husband got an electric shock from the light switch when he turned the light off. Maintenance worked on it for hours, from around 4am until 8-9am. I felt awful for them. My husband has a heart condition and has had a heart attack before, so the shock was especially frightening. We didn’t report it to the police or DET at the time because we didn’t want to cause trouble for the business. In a meeting afterward, the manager offered us 8 free days. We hadn’t asked for a free stay. We’d asked whether we could pay in installments because we were staying long term. At first the manager was nice, but later she began hurrying us to pay when card issues delayed a payment. We were only late by 1-2 days, always paid in full, and never owed them a penny. Still, on 2nd June, she turned off the electricity and water in our room during extremely hot weather. My husband’s blood pressure went up because of the heat, and we had to call the police and an ambulance. After the ambulance arrived, she turned the power and water back on. As the manager, she must know that switching off a customer’s electricity is illegal. When our booking ended on 5th June, they closed their website and wouldn’t let us extend. We’ve already moved out, but we have filed complaints with DET and the police, and we’re following through. We regret not reporting the electric shock earlier. We tried not to create problems for the business, but the way she treated us over a flexible payment request was too much.
