Hotel Vila Aleksander

The hosts were kind and very hospitable, and the location made it easy to walk to both the city centre and the castle. Alexander’s place has so much character and charm that pictures don't really capture it. It was one of my favourite places to stay on our trip, and the hosts dog was incredibly sweet and friendly. We highly recommend it.

The only really good part of this hotel was the terrace view, but I don't recommend staying here. Booking.com says there are parking places in the street, yet there were no free ones. The owner claimed a place and showed it to us, then charged 10 euros each day for that street parking. Other hotels have free parking. He also pushed us to pay in cash despite having a pos device, and we had to push hard to use a credit card. Our room had no view and no proper shower. When we complained, the owner offered another, better room for an extra charge, which we refused. Unlike what you normally find in hotel rooms, there was no free water. Each bottle cost 300 leks. Breakfast was very poor for cheese and eggs, with lots of carbohydrates such as pancakes, cake and fruits.

We had a really nice stay, and the welcoming service included helpful suggestions for restaurants and things to see and do. Breakfast was served on the terrace, and we also had drinks in the afternoon. The location is great, though the hotel is a little hard to find and parking is somewhat of an issue. Still, it was worth it, and we highly recommend it. Thank you so much, Kate and Andrew.

The balcony overlooking Berat is beautiful, and the hotel fits nicely with the local architecture. Our room was tidy, well kept, and had everything we needed. The owners were genuinely kind and very helpful. Parking was difficult in my case, but the owner spoke with nearby hotels and arranged a space for me. Breakfast was simple and tasty, with homemade pancakes and cake, plus vegetables and eggs from the garden, served on the balcony with a town view. Five stars, without hesitation.
