Hotel Viktoria

I woke up to snow-covered mountains both behind and in front of the motel, a beautiful sight. It's out in the country just off the main road, with plenty of free, safe parking off the street. My room was comfortable and very clean. The owner was kind, spoke English, and cooks really well. I had dinner and breakfast, both freshly made and delicious. The price was very reasonable. The traditional breakfast was great, and the place was clean and comfortable for a good price. The hosts work incredibly hard and are friendly, setting a good example for other businesses around here. It's a quiet location with easy access to Gjirokaster and about a 50 minute drive to Saranda. A great base if you're travelling around the area.

The warmth from this family run restaurant was incredible. We were welcomed at the door like old friends and felt part of the family. The service was top class, and the presentation of the food was an art form. My cousin and I both had chicken, with sauce on mine. The extras could have been a whole meal: burek with egg and spinach, the most beautiful fresh chips, fried bread and peppers. We also had raki, Turkish delight, two raki brandies each, and a homemade special dessert. I've never felt so content and full. We both travel a lot, but this was our first time experiencing five star food, and it really was the best meal either of us has ever had. The chef has over 40 years of experience, and it shows. If he's not a Michelin star, he should be. Anyone anywhere near Gjirokastër should make a special trip just for this restaurant.

We stopped for lunch while driving by and Fotaq, the sweetest owner, greeted us. The surroundings and views were beautiful. Fotaq and his wife, Claudiana, offered to put together a plate of different Albanian foods and appetizers, and everything tasted amazing. They were also very helpful with questions about our trip. Don't miss this little gem!
