Honey-House “Kastrioti”

Fresh breakfasts made with local ingredients were prepared every morning, and the host and his family made us feel very welcome. The location is beautiful, sitting just above the Vjosa river. If we return to Permet, we'll definitely stay here again.

Honey-House “Kastrioti” sits just steps from the Vjosa River and combines family hospitality with food from the farm. Breakfast may bring fresh byrek and wildflower honey, while the family can serve dinner beside the river in the evening. Their son Enrico also offers rafting tours. Ask about the homemade pumpkin jam at breakfast, it's a hidden treasure. Love Albania ranked it #4 in Top 5 Accommodations in Përmet.

The room was basic rather than modern, but it was functional and had everything we needed, including a usable stove, hot water, and heating, which mattered a lot in winter. We paid only 25€ in cash for one room for two people for one night, and free parking was available. The real highlight was the hospitality. Kastrioti welcomed us at short notice, even on a winter night, and gave us some of his own wonderful honey. The riverside setting is quiet and private, with peaceful walks and relatively “untouched” nature around Permet. We had trouble getting the stove started, but Kastrioti’s wife helped and lent us a frypan from her kitchen. The hosts speak limited English, though they also speak Italian and Google Translate worked for nearly everything. Some photos show the river from the side opposite Honey House.

The owner speaks good Italian, which is how we communicated, and his son speaks English. They really make sure guests enjoy themselves, and the owner went above and beyond whenever I needed help in the area. They arranged rafting and a visit to the thermal Pools for me. The peaceful position above the river was a pleasure, and the kind family served a delicious breakfast. For an extra cost, they also prepare a home cooked dinner with a view of the river. I would happily stay here again.
