Guesthouse Mehmeti

Guesthouse Mehmeti is in one of the parts of Valbona that still has the old mountain charm, despite how built up the area has become in recent years. The people running it are lovely and very helpful, and the rooms are clean. Breakfast is largely from the garden, the eggs are from their chickens, and they make their own honey on site. That honey is unbelievable. I’d happily stay again and recommend it to all my friends.

A lovely, quiet spot for hiking, away from the main town. The staff are friendly and very hospitable. They grow their own vegetables and keep chickens and cows, so the ingredients are fresh. Dinner was fantastic and all homemade. I’d definitely recommend this place.

We liked our two nights at Guesthouse Mehmeti. The family running it was nice, and the garden was a lovely place to sit with a beer and take in the mountains. Its peaceful spot in Valbonë, away from the more developed and busy end of town, keeps some of the traditional mountain feel. The room was comfortable enough, though there was a faint musty smell in the bedroom that better ventilation might help. The food was basic but fine. We ate there the first night, then went elsewhere the second for a bit more variety. They kindly made us a packed lunch for hiking. A couple of things could be better: fresh coffee at breakfast, since only mint tea was offered and we love caffeine, and better shower flow, perhaps with a new showerhead and a little more pressure. On our ten-day trip, this was the only place that didn’t offer fresh coffee.

The meals were excellent and just what we needed for our Peaks of the Balkans trip, including breakfast, packed lunch, and dinner. The guesthouse itself was clean and welcoming, with a beautiful garden.
