Breakfast was good, but that was about the only bright spot. This place feels like a ruin with most of it abandoned, and part of the floor had caved in. At night the hallways were dark enough that a flashlight was necessary. The bedroom lights didn't work, leaving just one lamp in the sitting room, and nearly all the outlets hung loose with exposed wires. Only one worked, for the space heater, which seemed like a fire risk. In winter the heater couldn't get the room above 10C (50F), and the bathroom had no heat and stayed close to freezing. The water stopped after three minutes. The mattress and linens were ancient. One elderly, charming woman was handling all the staff work and clearly doing her best, but she couldn't bring the hotel back to life. Maybe it could be an adventure in warmer weather, though I wouldn't count on air conditioning in the brutal summer.

I slept really well and left with another good memory of my trip through glorious Armenia. In April 2017, on my way to Tatev wings, I decided to stay the night. Hotel ARPA seemed closed, so I went into GLADZOR, a huge and completely empty place. I was apparently the only guest among what must have been more than 100 rooms. The thick Soviet walls seemed full of echoes and reminders of a glorious past. The woman in charge was incredibly kind. She didn't speak English, but gestures were enough, and she gave me a clean, comfy room with a terrace and nice hot water, almost like a mother looking after me. There was no Wi-Fi, but by then her kindness had won me over and I didn't mind. I can recommend it.
