Hotel Ritz Capital

The room was basic but had what I needed: a comfortable bed, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi that was acceptable. Breakfast was included, though the choices were limited, so don’t expect anything fancy. The location is really convenient, right in the city center, near the main sights and a short walk from the beach. The front desk staff were helpful and available, and check-in was easy even late at night. The place could do with some updates, especially the elevator and cleanliness. For the price, it’s decent if you’re after somewhere basic.

The rooms are perfectly fine, the service is excellent, and the location is great.

I paid online through Agoda, but the hotel kept saying the Visa payment hadn’t gone through and insisted I pay them 31,000AOA in cash. International credit cards aren’t really accepted in Angola, and they didn’t speak English very well, giving me a few excuses. Later that night I tried to buy a bottle of mineral water for 600AOA, about 1US$, and paid with a 1000 AOA bill. The staff member said he had no change. When I asked again the next day, he told me the change was his tip. That showed no integrity. My room rate apparently included breakfast, but I was told I had to pay extra, so I left the hotel to eat. The building also felt kind of dodgy. The first floor is dark, you have to climb to the second floor, and there’s no elevator. The toilet door seemed broken and the bathroom was in disrepair, though still usable. The curtains opened onto the hotel’s laundry area on the second floor, with staff walking around, so it was better to keep them closed.

I’ve stayed here a few times, and for me it’s one of the best values in Luanda because of the location and good service. Breakfast is served, and there’s air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and hot water. The price is extremely reasonable for Luanda.
