Galileo Boutique Hotel

The service was the highlight for us. Everyone was incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful, and the food and wine could be brought right to our room. The menu had a surprisingly wide and interesting selection, and we enjoyed both dinners we ate there. They also had interesting wines by the glass, available on request. We stayed at Galileo in late August. The rooms had a rustic charm, and were spacious and immaculately clean. Galileo really stood out. If we return to Cerro Catedral, we’ll definitely stay there again. I recommend it highly.

Service and location were fantastic. The staff were attentive, very friendly, and available to help at any hour. They spoke a little English and Portuguese, which made communication easier. The rooms were clean, spacious, and tidy, though somewhat dated. The location would be amazing for skiing, with just a short walk uphill to the resort base. We visited during what was described as Bariloche’s worst snow season in decades, so we couldn’t ski and didn’t really get to enjoy staying in Cerro Catedral. The price also felt a bit high, though that may be normal for Cerro Catedral compared with San Carlos and nearby towns. There were some issues in the room. The shower head needed replacing, the bathroom sink barely drained, and the walls were very thin, so we could hear the neighbors having an ordinary conversation clearly. The water was literally brown when we first arrived. Maybe that was due to rain in Patagonia, but it improved over time and was still off-putting for the nightly cost. Breakfast in the room sounded like a nice touch, but it arrived at different times and rarely when requested. What we got was a bit of a gamble, and the eggs could be hot or cold. The service and location were great, but everything else was average at best.

I’d recommend this hotel if you want to stay near the ski area while avoiding most of the crowds. The place is cozy, the service excellent, and the rooms comfortable. There was just a small mix-up on two mornings: I changed the breakfast order the night before, but the kitchen wasn’t told. No big deal. The bathroom is big enough, though there’s not much counter space. The walls between rooms are very thin, and I could hear normal conversation next door.

Our room had lovely natural light, plenty of space, and beautiful rustic character. It was a short walk to the slopes and ski village, and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We had a fabulous stay at The Galileo Hotel and can’t wait to return. Highly recommend!
