Hotel Catedral Patagonia Ski & Wellness

We went in February, and I’m only getting around to writing this now. The place is beautiful, quiet, and well maintained, not far from the city center. The staff were the real highlight. Beba was welcoming and knew exactly where we used to snowboard in NY, where we live. Small world! After we left, we realized we’d forgotten some things that mattered a lot to us. Beba went above and beyond and shipped them to us. We were too busy taking in the region’s beautiful sights to try the spa, which is our one regret. We can’t wait to return. The long flights were well worth it.

The downstairs lodge area was nice, and the location worked well for skiing, but it isn’t ski in/ski out. It’s about a five minute walk to the lifts. For the price, the rooms and service didn’t feel up to par. Our bed was uncomfortable and cheap, just two twin mattresses against the wall with no headboard, and the pillows and bedding felt cheap too. Having only one room key was annoying. They asked us to leave it at reception whenever we went out, so we had to stop at the front desk each time we entered or left. Food and drinks were extremely pricey for their quality. At those rates, I wouldn’t recommend staying. It felt like four star pricing for a three star experience at best.

The location was the only good part. The place is poorly maintained, the service isn’t good, and the walls are so thin that it’s very noisy. Hot water runs out, so you have to shower earlier in the afternoon or end up with cold water. The restaurants have very limited choices, and the food is poor. The high price bears no relation to the low quality of everything.

The view is very nice, and I guess it’s near a lot of walking trails, so it could be good for families with kids. But it felt lonely, with nothing to do nearby at night. The hotel is about 20 km from the city, public transportation isn’t good, and you can’t get back after 8. There was nothing in the room, not even sugar, tea, or shampoo. We’ve stayed in nice hotels before. This wasn’t exactly basic, but it wasn’t five star either, and the price didn’t feel justified for us. Not for young people!
