Gran Hotel De La Paix

The bedroom was comfortable, and the hotel is right by a subway station and several tourist spots. My one gripe was that they keep the TV and air conditioning remotes, so you have to ask for them. They could just hand them over at check-in.

The free WiFi worked well, and there were plenty of TV channels. The hotel is generally good, though, like other buildings in Buenos Aires, it feels a little dated. There were only two power outlets in the room. I'd recommend staying for a week or more if you don't mind a bit of luxury being absent.

The staff were great, all friendly and ready with advice about the neighborhood or whatever else we needed. We ended up here after our Airbnb fell through, and it turned out to be good value in a great location, close to main bus routes, the subte, and central Buenos Aires. It felt safe to walk around at most hours. The shared mattress was comfortable on one side, but had a big dent on the other that you slumped into. The place was pretty tidy overall, though some areas could use a coat of paint.

For the location and price, I thought this was a good place to stay. The staff were nice and tried to help whenever something came up. I mostly spoke Spanish with them, but they can speak English if needed. I was there for six nights. There are bars across the street and around the corner, El Museo de Jamon next door, and lots of other restaurants within walking distance. Kiosko is around the corner, the Subte is one block away, and you can walk to San Telmo, Puerto Madero, Casa Rosada, Plaza de Mayo, and some Tango shows. The area felt safe, though the front door stays locked and you need to buzz to get in. Breakfast isn't included. It's not too expensive at 200 pesos, but there are better choices across July 9th Avenue, like La Oficina. The common areas and elevator are pretty small. The room size, condition, and amenities were fine for what I paid. It's no Ritz or J.W. Marriott, but all things considered I'm giving it five stars.
