I travel alone, but the staff tried to make me pay tourist tax for two people even though they knew I was a solo traveller and the room was registered for ONE person. I’d stayed at this hotel a couple of times before, and they had always charged tax for one person. At checkout, the man said their system showed two guests and refused to change it. He got irritated and angry with me. He said his boss would be angry at him if I didn’t pay for two, but I told him his problem with his boss wasn’t mine. Maybe all the staff are working together to squeeze money from tourists. I don’t know, but he also refused to give me a receipt for the tax I paid in cash, so maybe the money was going into their own pockets. That would be very corrupt. I will NEVER go back to Merit San Telmo. The corner rooms are dark and smelly, and their layout is questionable, so avoid those. When I checked in around 11 p.m., the AC wasn’t working. The staff already knew and said they’d fix it the next day, as if that was my problem, and asked me to accept the room. I insisted on another room because I’d paid for a good, nice room. They then wanted me to accept a cheaper one, which I refused. After an hour of arguing with the staff, I finally got a nice room. There are better hotels in Buenos Aires, so choose for yourself.

Sept.25 Our flight was cancelled, and we arrived too late to check in at the apartment we’d booked, so we found this lovely nearby hotel for the night. The room had a king seize bed, aircon, and a nice separate bathroom with free toiletries. Breakfast was great and started at 7AM, with Sunday checkout at 11AM. We also used the free safe luggage storage.

The bathroom was moldy all around, poorly lit, and the drains were all blocked or painfully slow. There were no tissues, no spare toilet paper, and just one tiny waste bin. The breakfast is ridiculous, go across the street. In the room, there were only four hangers, no drawers, no light at the desk, and NO COFFEE MAKER. STAY AT A TANGO HOUSE.

Room 212 was spacious and clean, with a large matrimonial bed, a pleasantly firm but soft mattress, and a soft pillow. It had a TV and WiFi, though I missed having a mini-fridge. There’s a safe in the room, and access is by electronic key. The bathroom has a shower stall. Its faucets felt a bit loose, there were some bothersome pipe noises, and the shower gel was a little scarce. Breakfast is included and the hours are flexible, but the coffee and croissants were disappointing. The rest of the food tasted good. Most of the front desk team were friendly and spoke English, which helped, and checkout was quick. Our room was cleaned every day, although the towels weren’t changed. The lobby needs an update: the chairs looked worn and the paint was peeling from the walls.

It’s very convenient for getting around, but the front desk staff were rude and nobody offered to help. There’s no refrigerator in the room, and I was charged every time I asked for ice. If you want visitors and tourists to come back, you should have more welcoming people in the lobby. We’ll talk about our experiences in Buenos Aires and make recommendations.
