The hosts were AMAZING, and the staff were wonderful. The room was a good size and well supplied with disinfectant, soap, and a hair dryer. It’s a six-minute walk to the bus station. It’s a bit far from the central restaurant area, but there are still food and grocery options nearby.

The cabins are clean and well appointed, and check-in is through a lockbox. The heating is tricky to control, though, so don’t switch it off because getting it going again is a hassle. Cabanas Las Cumbres is a few minutes’ walk from the Bus Terminal in El Calafate, but downtown is about a 30-minute walk. It sits on a main dusty road, with traffic noise and pollution, which makes the grassy yard less appealing than it looks in photos. There are around five or six cabins around the yard, plus two double rooms above reception. Prices doubled over the past year, so it no longer seems like a good deal. Calafate itself has little charm and is mostly a stop on the way to the Perito Moreno glacier.
