Hostel del Glaciar Pioneros

The place has a great vibe, the service was fine, and the room I reserved was nice. The kitchen felt a bit small for the number of people staying there. My main issue was the parking. We were told my boyfriend and I could safely leave our motorcycles on the property behind a gate next to the building. Don’t park here. We’d taken all our luggage off, luckily, but someone rifled through our attached tank bags and tried to break into one bike’s screen. They failed, but broke it in the process. There are no cameras in the parking lot. I told the front desk, so hopefully they stop letting people park there. I’d had high hopes for this place.

The guide’s knowledge and enthusiasm for Patagonia really added to the trip. We took the "Trip Alternativo" to Perito Moreno glacier, which also included a short hike on the Magellan"s Peninsula and a drive through the countryside. Along the way, the guide told us about the region’s history. I’d recommend it.

The internet kept dropping and was very weak in my room, which was one of the last ones on the property. Breakfast was just white bread, little jam packets, milk, and tea, with no variety, so I bought my own food. The towels and bedsheets had stains from previous guests, and no one asked if I wanted the room cleaned until my last day. The shower drain was completely blocked, so the water wouldn’t go down. I reported it twice and it still wasn’t fixed during my stay. I was in a private room at **Del Glaciar Pioneros / Hostel Los Pioneros Calafate** as part of a tour package, and the experience was extremely disappointing. It didn’t meet even basic expectations for a place advertised with two stars. I can’t recommend staying here.

Be careful booking here. They couldn’t find our reservation or payment, and even though we’d booked a private room, they put us in a dormitory. They don’t provide towels either. The rooms all need maintenance. I really don’t recommend this place. Better to pay a few dollars more and stay somewhere decent.
