The view from the hill over the glacier-blue waters of Laguna Argentina is the best part. The staff were friendly and the place was fairly clean, but it felt dated and didn’t quite meet my standards. Our room was clean but basic, and the shower setup was odd. On New Year’s Eve there was no hot water left, so I had a cold shower before dinner. There are lots of stray dogs nearby, and they’re incredibly friendly, which was a lovely extra.

The views from Punta Soberana are spectacular, and there’s a great trail for biking or running along Lago Argentino. The hotel is about 10 minutes outside the city, but taxis cost around $5 and make getting in easy. After traveling overnight from Central America, we arrived at 8:30am and they already had our room ready, even though check-in is usually around 2-3pm. Breakfast was amazing, and the staff were kind and accommodating. Fantastic service, I’d highly recommend staying here in El Calafate.

Big thanks to ballentina, the concierge manager, and Tania. I couldn’t speak Spanish, but they were so kind and worked hard to help me set up tours so I could enjoy the nature around el calafate. We planned our day around a massage we’d booked two days ahead and confirmed the day before. Ten minutes before the appointment, the front desk said there was no booking. When we pushed back, the explanation changed to say we hadn’t confirmed, then that the masseuse was at another location. We’d stayed in for the day because of the appointment, so the whole day was wasted. After I spoke to the front desk staff member, "?Enya", she didn’t apologize and seemed not to care. The restaurant adds a 10% tip to every meal automatically, and the staff got our order wrong. The shuttle barely runs, just 3-4 times a day at odd hours, so expect to spend at least 20 USD a day on taxis to town. The shower isn’t properly enclosed and leaves the whole bathroom wet. The property is large and several miles from the city. From a distance it looks like a rehab center, and although the rooms and floor areas are spacious, the decor feels unfinished, as if attention went to the ceiling and not the rest. Staff couldn’t speak English, and when we struggled in broken Spanish, they smirked and laughed. Wouldn’t recommend.
