The sun was rising in my first photo as we headed by boat to visit the beautiful, famous Estancia Cristina in Santa Cruz, Argentina. I’ve included pictures from inside and outside the boat, plus an iceberg. I also took a photo with two guests from Belo Horizonte, Brasil. Thanks to them for taking time out of their day to join my photo session on Monday, April 27th, 2026. The hike at estancia Cristina was a real highlight. It took us 4 hours, but it wasn’t difficult, and the terrain felt completely unfamiliar. The boat trip to the Upsula glacier and icebergs was unbelievable, and there’s no other way to get there. It’s pricey, though the service and feeling of exclusivity made it worth it. A must-do in remote Patagonia.

The quiet setting and the kind people made estancia Cristina such a good place to rest. We booked the trekking option, and the whole day went smoothly: transfer, boat, 4x4 ride to the viewpoint, guide, hike, lunch, and return trip. The trek through the national park was wonderful. I’d absolutely recommend it.

The food was such a lovely surprise. When we told Javier how much we’d enjoyed it, Sophie and her kitchen team came out to greet us, which really touched me. Sophie’s menu was full of amazing flavors. Facundo was also so patient and helped my dad get to the first viewpoint. Later, on the boat, he brought him the mate he’d promised during the jeep ride. The views were breathtaking, the tour was spectacular, and everyone took such good care of us. My dad and I had a fantastic time. Thank you!

Book ahead, since this is one of El Calafate’s most popular activities. Estancia Cristina has a museum in the old shearing shed that’s well worth visiting. The ranch dates back to 1914, when Joseph Percival Masters founded it, and the visit gives you a feel for the pioneers who came to Patagonia in the early 20th century. The town-center office handled our reservation efficiently, and the place is accessible, with bilingual staff.
