After long days out in the mountains, this was a comfortable, quiet place to return to. I stayed at Fitz Roy Hostería de Montaña both before and after my expedition, and the room was clean, the bed was great, and the heating and hot shower worked perfectly. Those things really matter in El Chaltén. The location makes it easy to get where you need to go, yet it’s peaceful enough to rest. The staff were kind and helpful, with practical tips and recommendations. I had a really pleasant stay and would happily return.

The location makes it easy to get around and the views are good. We also used the laundry service, which was really helpful, with next day turnaround. Staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean during our few nights here in January 2026. It’s a simple place, which is fine for El Chalten, but breakfast was so basic that we didn’t eat much: bread, mashed boiled eggs, deli meat and cheese, jams, pastries, and juice. The halls carry a lot of noise, so sleeping well can be hard, and the clean bedding was a bit worn. There’s no blow dryer, shampoo, or conditioner, just so you know.

We felt safe here, and everything was clean and comfortable. The staff explained the hikes clearly, showed us maps, and even found us a last minute shuttle up the mountain. A local shop owner had given us so much hiking information that we felt overwhelmed, so the hotel’s straightforward advice was a relief. Breakfast was nice and the bed was comfortable too. This is a nice 3 star hotel. My one suggestion is to add more shelves and clothes hangers so guests can organize their things. Rooms in the US aren’t bigger, but they tend to provide more space for that. We also found little room or furniture for belongings at our hotel in El Calafate, so maybe that’s typical around here.

For what we paid, this was a terrible stay. The place felt like a retirement home, the shower water never got hot, and after hiking I really wanted a hot shower. Breakfast was cold and limited to deli meat, cereal, and some bread. The walls are thin enough that every sound carries. Even a person unlocking a door down the hall sounded like they were right beside us.

The rooms felt small and hot during our January stay, and breakfast had very few gluten free choices. The hotel is right in the town centre, close to cafes and restaurants, and the staff were lovely.
