Hotel Costa Galana

The setting is great, right in front of playa grande with a lovely view of the Atlantic coast. Leandro Alem street is about two blocks behind, with plenty of restaurants and cafes, and buses along Av. Patricio Peralta Ramos make it easy to get around the city. The staff are friendly, and the rooms are nice and a good size, though the design is a bit dated. Beautiful hotel and a great choice for a stay in beautiful Mar del Plata.

We had two of the best suites they offer, and the view was very nice. The rest of the stay was a letdown. This hotel is living on its old reputation: it's currently the most expensive in the city and calls itself five-star, but the experience felt three-star. The rooms are dated, the carpet is far too old, and the bathroom fixtures had visible rust, peeling, and other signs of poor maintenance. Some staff were rude, and some seemed badly trained. They enforce what they call aforo, capacity and service restrictions everywhere. In practice, it felt like they offered less while having fewer staff. We had to reserve a day ahead for breakfast, the sauna, and pool use, yet the beach was unusable because all the tents had been rented to some locals for the whole season. They blocked guests from using services even when they were empty. We ended up at a nearby beach club because the hotel hadn't set aside even a few tents for its guests. This was in low season, in December 2021, so good luck in high season. The strangest part was when my father in law ordered Cognac at the lobby bar and got Fireball instead. I politely pointed out the mistake, then after a few minutes the server explained they thought Fireball was the closest thing since they'd run out of cognac. I hope your stay is better than mine.

The ocean-view room was beautiful, and both the service and the hotel were truly outstanding. We'll definitely come back!
