Fuente Mayor Hotel Ciudad de Mendoza

Our suite was spacious and seemed new, but it was missing some basics: no glasses for water and no hooks for towels or swimsuits. The shower drain was blocked and never got fixed during our stay, and there were other issues on most days. We booked a business suite for its patio, but didn’t end up using it. The umbrella was broken, and the chairs’ white cushions were dirty. We were told Mendoza’s weather makes them dirty quickly and they’d need cleaning several times a day if we wanted to sit there. Front desk service depended on who was working. When we arrived, we waited more than 20 minutes to be served.

The hotel was modern and comfortable, and it was about a 20 minute walk to the city center. Breakfast was simple but fine, though the coffee was awful, watered down. They left a bottle of water in the room and charged for it, the first hotel I’ve been to that didn’t leave one complimentary. We had to switch rooms because some overlook the busy main road, where it’s impossible to sleep.

There are lots of restaurants and shops just a short walk away, and the location is fantastic. The price was great too. The room was basic, but breakfast had plenty of variety and was really good. Air conditioning worked well, and there are elevators. The garage underneath is super tight, so rent a small car.

We checked out just a few hours after arriving. It was the dirtiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in: mould in the shower, hairs on the floors, and a couple on the sheets too. We asked to change rooms, but the one they showed us had blood on the floor. The person at reception was courteous and waived the fees. The pool feels like an afterthought, tucked at the back of a patio.
