Grand Hotel Balbi

The facilities are dated, but they’re kept in good shape. A nice place.

The room was really good, and the bed was super comfortable. The hotel also looks lovely, and the location is wonderful. I’m taking off a star because fresh air was hard to get: the window barely let any in, and the only other option was calling reception to switch the air conditioning on or off. That became a nuisance at certain times, when I’d call to turn it on and then have to call again an hour later to turn it off. At night, even with the window open, there wasn’t much air coming through. Calling reception at 4 am to ask for the AC felt unpleasant, not because the staff weren’t nice, they treated me wonderfully, but because I didn’t like bothering them at that hour over such a specific thing.

The staff were especially kind and quick to help with any concerns. Thanks to the reception team, the young woman in the breakfast room, and the parking attendant. We’d definitely come back! We found the hotel on an unexpected trip from Chile, after arriving in Mendoza without a reservation and checking a few places that disappointed us. It isn’t luxurious, but it had what we needed to recharge and enjoy the city. Our room was roomy, comfortable, spotless, and had air conditioning. The bathroom was spotless too. There was plenty of covered parking, which matters with hail in the area, and the rate included a classic Mendoza breakfast. The location was hard to beat, almost right across from the Mendoza market, with a Carrefour supermarket to the right and, a few meters to the left, a bakery with the city’s best pastries, always freshly baked. San Martín Avenue is just a couple of blocks away.

The pool is quite large, though very deep, so kids need to be careful. The rooms are cared for and cleaned every day, and the location is excellent. Everything else was great too, from the reception and bar to the included breakfast and the cleanliness. Highly recommended.
