Hotel Arte del Rey

The bed was comfortable, I slept well, and the location worked for me. Breakfast was fairly comprehensive. But there’s no air conditioning, and a week before arrival the reservations center told me the pool wasn’t working. I asked about a partial refund and they sent me to reception, who then told me to contact the central office. The communication was awful and unclear, and the refund never came through. I wouldn’t have been nearly as bothered by the lack of service if they’d explained things clearly or at least had a proper conversation with me. It felt very dishonest.

The excellent location is especially handy if you don’t have a car, and the service was excellent too. Breakfast was amazing, and despite everything, we had a very good stay. The hotel itself is very nice, though I found it expensive, probably because of the season and the country. The pool wasn’t working, there’s no air conditioning in the rooms, and there’s no garage or parking.

The shared lounge and breakfast space is inviting, and the cleaning service was fine. But our room was opposite the stairs down to that area, so we heard everything: people coming and going, the cleaners, cutlery clattering, all of it. There’s nowhere to put things in the room, and the floating nightstands are tiny. No hairdryer in the bathroom either. The pool water was green.

We left after three nights feeling awful about the stay. The room was filthy and the bathroom was broken. They insisted we leave the room key, yet the door didn’t lock, so anyone could walk in without a key. The green pool was disgusting to even consider using. Towels were old and worn, the bed was practically on the floor, and the pillows smelled musty. They woke us up to clean the room even though we’d said it wasn’t necessary. Breakfast was very basic and nearly gone by 9:00 a.m. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend this place.
