The room itself was clean and had a balcony with a table and chairs, but the upkeep was poor. There was mold in the shower, some parts of the hotel were in disrepair, and the bathroom towel had a hole. The cabinets looked neglected, and it seemed a fridge and safe had once been there, leaving holes behind when they were removed. The hotel may once have been quite nice, but it hasn’t been maintained over the years. The lobby felt hot and humid without air conditioning, with a faint musty smell. The pools looked all right, though rain kept us from trying them. It’s near the airport, but getting there on foot means walking uphill. Breakfast was easy to skip. The coffee was good and the toast was okay, but the orange juice wasn’t worth it. The baked goods were hit or miss, and the chipa disappointed.

The staff were very accommodating, and I had a comfortable stay with my dog.

Breakfast was delicious and had something for every kind of guest. We stayed two nights, and everything went smoothly. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was just as roomy.

The pool area was clean and pleasant, with towels available, and the pool bar opens at noon. At reception, some staff were kind and helpful, while others weren’t. The spa schedule was poorly organized, and our appointment was changed without a valid explanation.

The biggest issue for me was breakfast. I understand there couldn’t be a buffet because of covid, but wrapping each slice of cheese in plastic seemed pointless when one person was serving all the tables. The photo shows all the plastic from breakfast. Their sign, “Maite Hotel trabajamos para reducir nuestro impacto en el medio ambiente,” felt completely at odds with that. The outside of the hotel looks a little rundown, although the rooms are nice and clean. The staff were helpful, but it took two hours and two calls to get warm water to our room.
