The rooms were well equipped, with a good shower and a comfortable bed, and the hotel is conveniently near the airport. Beyond those points, though, this was a disappointing stay. The spa was hard to relax in: its hallway felt like an industrial cellar, the wet sauna was about 40°C but seemed more like room temperature, and the dry sauna was only 53°C. Staff gave a vague explanation that the system ran automatically when we asked to raise the heat. The jacuzzi seemed to be the only thing working, and using it cost extra. Reception staff barely spoke English, seemed unfriendly, and didn't take the initiative to offer help or information. When I asked them to call the spa to book our disastrous time slot, they handed me the phone to arrange it myself. Breakfast also fell short of a four-star standard, with almost all sweet food; the ham and cheese sandwich I ordered never arrived. Parking wasn't included either. I wouldn't recommend the hotel.

Our massage booking was mishandled by the spa. We'd booked a couples massage in one room, but they tried to set up separate sessions with a male and a female therapist, and even got the time wrong. When one of us cancelled, they still wanted to charge us for two. Good management means delivering what was promised, not failing and then making excuses. Beware!

The breakfast team were especially kind and attentive, and the breakfast itself was good. My room was comfortable, modern, and very clean, with AC that worked well. The sauna and steam room were a nice extra, though I wish the receptionist had said they needed to be booked ahead. A few small things would make the room better: a mix of soft and firm pillows, a kettle, complimentary water, and a toilet brush. I had a great stay and would happily return to Gomes Hotel and Spa.

I first left a positive review on Tripadvisor, but later realized the hotel had charged my card for three nights instead of two. I've contacted them repeatedly to explain and ask for a refund. They initially said they'd sort it out, but two months on they no longer reply, and I still haven't received the money. I've lost almost 100 gbp. Very disappointing and poor business.
