Hotel y Spa The Place

The location is a real plus, just half a block from the beach and a few meters from the main road. The heated pool was also very nice, though it needs maintenance like the rest of the hotel. We stayed four days in room 510, which had two areas for four people. The carpet was filthy and was never vacuumed. The bathroom faucet leaked onto the floor, leaving a puddle, and repeated requests didn’t get it fixed. A ceiling fan was loose and made a terrible noise, but they didn’t repair it. We had to use it because the room was so hot. There were wall cracks, damp proof panels coming loose, and little storage space. Breakfast was basic, and the dining room was too small for everyone. They kept another room with tables on the mezzanine closed, so guests had to wait in line. On our last day, we were told to leave our bags early and couldn’t take our wallets into the breakfast area because they feared people would take the croissants, which weren’t plentiful anyway. Put a coin in, guys!

Room 303 was bright, clean, and very comfortable, and the hotel is close to both the beach and the city center. That central location does mean some nighttime noise. The service was friendly, attentive, and efficient, and the heated pool was a nice feature. Breakfast was the usual simple hotel spread: croissants, bread, toast, butter, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and fruit. I can’t say anything about dinner since it wasn’t served. The shower water was warmer in the late afternoon and evening than around midday. The bathroom sink faucet was leaking a little when we arrived, but they fixed it during our stay. There are a lot of steps at the entrance, even though the hotel has an elevator, so that could be hard for guests with reduced mobility. Still, we had a successful stay. I’d recommend the hotel and would come back.

The only bright spot was the service from the woman and her son who handle breakfast and dinner. The rest of my stay was one to forget. You have to climb 12 steps to reach the lobby, and there’s no access ramp. My hot room faced Chiozza Street, where the noise made it impossible to sleep late. The bathroom was very old, with damp marks on the floor and a horrible smell. Breakfast wasn’t the buffet that had been advertised, and the food was poor quality. The Wi-Fi was terrible, and a swimsuit disappeared from my room with nobody taking responsibility. I booked through Noche y Día (Night and Day), but the coordinators were nowhere to be seen. I wouldn’t return or recommend this place, and I hope they don’t remove my review.

The kitchen and cleaning staff were the only good part. Our room smelled strongly of damp as soon as we walked in. The heated pool was cold, and a problem in the spa caused the power to go out and the water to be shut off. When water came back, it was black. On our last night the toilet tank ran dry, and there wasn’t much food. They gave us no shower soap, just a small dispenser for three people, and no lotion. They also demanded payment for soft drinks I had made.
