Almeria Hotel

The location is the only real plus, and the breakfast started at 7:00 AM. Everything else made this the worst hotel experience of my life. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Our room was quite small, and the bathroom was tiny, with the light switch in an awkward spot. The water pressure was very good, though. I was told breakfast was continental with extras. I have no idea what the extras were, but what we got was meager and low quality (photo attached). When I asked about parking, they said yes but never mentioned it was around the corner, nearly two blocks away in San Rafael, or that it was only available from 7:30 PM to 9:00 AM. Apparently, the hotel had an agreement with that parking lot. If its spaces were full, there were two spaces between cones in front of the hotel. There was only one key for the garage, so every time you needed to take the car out, you had to ask for the key and return it. Such a hassle. On my second day, I got a message saying they’d made a mistake with my reservation and I couldn’t stay the third night, which I’d already paid for. They offered to find a hotel with similar features, said they’d handle everything, and just asked me to confirm. But when we arrived at the other hotel the next day, they had no idea we were coming. They kindly prepared a room while I checked on my new reservation. That hotel did have a garage, but all the spaces were taken. At least at Almería they had the decency to offer me the parking lot. I couldn’t even have breakfast there, since it started at 8:00 and we had a booked activity half an hour away at 8:15. The owner of the Almería hotel was the person I’d been contacting from the start, and the one who told me there was supposedly an error with my stay. When I asked to speak with him after finding out the other hotel knew nothing about the arrangement, he didn’t even show his face. Based on a comment from an employee, and the coincidence that several rooms became available on the very day they made us leave, I suspect they had a group coming in and found them more profitable than us. I can’t recommend this place to anyone, not even someone I dislike. One very kind employee, Luciano, gave us several route suggestions. Everything else is forgettable, and I wouldn’t return even if they paid me to stay in their best room.

The staff were generally friendly and mostly helpful, and the dinners were okay. I wouldn’t recommend the breakfast, though. The rooms are awful and stifling on a very hot day. The bathroom is tiny and has no bidet, the air conditioning doesn’t work, and the fans are noisy. If you like walking, it’s about 20 blocks from Plaza Francia. I didn’t enjoy my stay and wouldn’t go back.

The rooms are nice, and there’s an elevator and a well-equipped lobby. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and since I’m celiac they had to make me a special menu. Genaro did a fantastic job looking after us.

Everything was clean and tidy, and the food was excellent. Very good service, highly recommended.
