Los Tarcos Guest House

It's tucked among greenery in a quiet, safe area, a great spot to unwind and walk around. We didn't see much of the owner, though she was attentive. Breakfast comes with the stay and is simple but fine. If you're going in summer, be aware the room has no air conditioning. Also, bring your own conditioner, since they don't provide sachets.

The rooms are at the back of the owner's house, but privacy and comfort are taken seriously, and the city view is spectacular. They're small, though full of thoughtful details and well equipped, including a spot to make coffee. Breakfast is served in a room with an incredible view, which adds a lot to the service. Lucia, the owner, was respectful and friendly. We had a wonderful, cozy stay near downtown San Salvador and will come back whenever we can.

From the street, access is extremely narrow, so it isn't suitable for people who use wheelchairs. It's one block from Libertad Street, which goes straight to the city center, ten blocks away. Our room was small but comfortable, with a complete bathroom and an electric coffee maker plus tea and coffee for making a cup whenever you like. Breakfast included tea, coffee, milk, jams, cream cheese (a bit limited), packaged pastries or cookies, and seasonal fruit. The breakfast area has a beautiful view and is visited by several bird species.

The beds are comfortable and the atmosphere is pleasant, and the place itself is very nice and has everything you need. Breakfast needs work, though: the croissants were stale and hard, and the coffee maker was broken and hard to use. There's just one breakfast table, so guests have to share. Two separate tables would give people more privacy.
