We booked directly with the hostal over WhatsApp and stayed two nights in a room with its own bathroom. The room was basic but comfortable, though some areas looked worn, including peeling paint. The hot shower worked well, and the bathroom had a bidet. There weren’t hooks for towels in the room or bathroom, and towels had to be brought along or rented for an extra fee. WiFi worked okay in our ground-floor room. We could also use the small shared kitchen for simple meals. It’s in a residential area about 1.1km from the bus terminal. A bit of a walk, but Tilcara is small, so it wasn’t too bad.

It’s inexpensive and a short trip from central Tilcara. The rooms are plain, but make decent shelter for the price. I wasn’t happy with how dirty the kitchen and shared bathroom were.

The volunteers were really friendly, kind, and helpful. The hostel itself was just okay for me. The bathroom was fine, though having to go through the kitchen to reach it felt odd. The kitchen had an annoying old smell, and even though my room was clean, I sank a little into the mattress. It’s an alright choice if you want to save money.

The mattresses were the only good part. When it rains, the kitchen floods, and there are no cleaning supplies. The bathroom is filthy, with just one mop for the whole hostel, and the kitchen is much too small for the number of guests. There’s no one around to ask for help and no daily cleaning. A disaster.

My partner and I spent a month volunteering here. It’s a quiet, comfortable hostel at a reasonable price. The owners are really cool, and it’s close to the main square.
