If you enjoy a survival challenge, this might be your kind of place. Ushuaia is cold, and at 2 a.m. the heat was off, cold air came through the windows, and there wasn't an extra blanket anywhere. It was 2°C outside and 12°C indoors. I got through the night wearing two thermal shirts. Breakfast was just as bad.

The location is about a 10-minute walk from the center, though the walk back is a steep climb. There are much better places to stay in Ushuaia, so I can't recommend this one. The room was very basic and felt worn out, like old junk in need of renovation. The bed was fairly good, but the pillows were really dirty and should be replaced. Bathroom furniture looked ready to collapse, and the shower head was so clogged with limescale that the forceful spray made it uncomfortable to stand under. The warm water came out brownish and cloudy. At night the bathroom fan would suddenly switch on and make a lot of noise. On the morning we left there was no water, so showering and using the toilet became impossible. Breakfast was a joke and very meager: dry white or brown bread, something like croissants, cheese, ham, jam, and cold eggs if you were lucky. That was about it.

The rooms are small, but comfortable and spotless, and the breakfast was delicious. The service was amazing, and this is a wonderfully cozy place. It sits a long way uphill from the city center, which is the one downside. But the view from the top-floor outlook room is fantastic. I could spend hours looking at the mountains and Harbour.

I run a travel agency in Korea and bring groups to South America every year. In all my experience, this was the worst hotel in Argentina. The rooms were tiny, old, and smelly. The location is far from centro and up a steep slope, which made getting around very uncomfortable. Breakfast was terrible too. The receptionist was the worst part. Even though I had booked 15 rooms for my group, he ignored my requests. After checking in, I left a large bottle of water and some travel documents on a lobby table. When I returned an hour later, he had thrown everything away as trash, even though he knew the items were mine. He insisted he had done nothing wrong. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world and never seen an employee throw away a guest's belongings right after check-in. After checkout, I could understand it, but not then. He had no sense of service for guests. I've lived in South America and visited more than 20 times, and this was the worst hotel employee I've encountered there. The owner was worse. When I complained the next morning, he told me it was 100% my fault and said they throw anything away when they clean. This hotel is crazy. They have 0% service for clients.

The rooms are clean and large, and you can set the heat yourself. There’s unlimited tea and coffee, plus a great breakfast. The front desk is staffed 24 hours. The hotel is five blocks from the main street, but those blocks are so steep that the sidewalks are made of steps, so plan for that.
