Wyndham Garden Ushuaia Hotel Del Glaciar

It’s in a good location and has a nice view, but the room was far too warm even with the heat off unless we opened the window. Hot water kept leaking in the bathroom. They “fixed” it twice, but as soon as we used the hot water, the leak came back. I guess they’d rather waste all that hot water than pay for a replacement valve.

The hotel is a long way up the hill, so we had to take Ubers, though they’re cheap. Since it’s a Wyndham, we used points and got a good deal. Service and breakfast were very good, and the beds, pillows, and shower were great.

The rooms are really nice and the staff lovely. Amenities are a bit limited, and there’s no spa, though massages can be arranged. The sauna is really nice and hot.

The views are beautiful, but it’s a 15 minute drive into the center and there’s nothing else up here. The hotel offers no shuttle to or from town. Having spent several days downtown before moving here, I wasn’t as disappointed by the location as I would’ve been otherwise. I’m happy with the stay because it was a free night on my Intrepid Antarctica trip, but I wouldn’t pay to stay here when town has cheaper, better located, and nicer options. The restaurant was a joke: just eight menu items, the same at lunch and dinner, and extremely expensive compared with town. Breakfast wasn’t bad and had a decent range, but felt more like a budget hotel than a four star place: hard boiled eggs, instant scrambled eggs, frozen home fries, some fruit, somewhat stale bread, juices, coffee, and tea. I was nervous after reading reviews, but reception was very friendly and welcoming. The decor has a “cozy cabin” feel, not the upscale style you’d expect from a four star resort. It’s a three star hotel at best, in my view. The beds were comfortable enough, while the furniture and bathrooms were definitely dated. There’s no AC, which is common across the resorts here, so you’ll need to crack a window to cool the room. It’s inconvenient, but it was around 40°F outside, so I didn’t see why AC was needed. I’ve stayed in much hotter countries without it. Just be prepared.
