Hotel Palmas Del Lago

The rooms are simple but comfortable, with air conditioning and towel service, and there are two pools, a games room, and a bar. For 50,000 pesos a day, it's hard to find many hotels with breakfast buffet, two pools, a bar, and air conditioning. The breakfast is basic but delicious, and fits the very affordable price. We had a wonderful week. There are a few small repairs to make, like a damp patch and a leaky bidet in the bathroom. The shower is portable, but there's always hot water, which feels appropriate for the price. The location is excellent, close to the center. The concierge staff were super friendly on all three shifts. When you ask for cleaning, the Turkish morning shift concierge checks, "Shall we go in to clean?" SOME PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO. I'm clarifying that the positive feedback and suggestions are mine. No coordinator asked me for them, though I read another review that made me want to say that. I'm not friends with anyone. I can be quite critical, as you can see from other places I've commented on, but fair is fair.

The staff were all friendly and attentive, so they're the reason for the four stars. The location is good, a few blocks from the center. I went off-season, and the outdoor pool is very large. The heated pool could, in my opinion, be a couple of degrees cooler and have a bit more light. The group dinner arrangement was unfamiliar to me, but it works. The room had an unpleasant musty, sewage smell, though that's understandable in an older hotel. The toilet leaked, and the bathroom was so tiny that showering got everything wet. There was nowhere to hang towels, so a hook in the bathroom and a clothes rack outside would help. The swollen door made the lock difficult to open, and I would have liked at least one hand towel per room, on top of a bath towel for each person.

There were cockroaches, mold in the pool, and bathroom drains that didn't work, leaving the floor flooded. Maintenance was the problem, and it felt lazy. The service was excellent, though, and the cleaning staff were impeccable.

In Room 117, the bathroom was tiny and had a portable shower, so you practically shower over the toilet. In Room 123, rain dripped on you while you were on the toilet, and it was always wet. The sheets were old, the towels had holes, and the cleaning was poor. The bathroom by the pool had no doorknob, so you had to use it with the door open. The new section is a two-star hotel; the old wing is one star, if you're lucky.
