Posada Los Cedros

This lovely inn is very close to the La Cumbre golf course, making it a good choice for a weekend away. There’s a beautiful pool in a well-kept park with mountain views. The original English-style house is about 100 years old and very well preserved. It has just a few rooms, with extra rooms and small apartments available as well.

There’s plenty of open space, a comfortable pool, bright and spacious rooms, and a good breakfast. The hotel is in a quiet area near the city center. But for the price and what’s advertised, we expected more. The playroom was just a room full of tables and chairs with a TV, plus a ping-pong table that was closed and couldn’t be opened. The common area was clean and tidy, but there weren’t any books about the hotel, such as photo or history books. The library had lots of novels, but it’s hard to get through them all in two days. There was no tourist information either. The small staff did their jobs, but didn’t offer the extra helpful information or warmth that can make a stay better. For example, a WhatsApp message before arrival could have told us the back entrance is much easier to use when arriving by car. A few maintenance problems could also use attention, including broken mosquito nets and dirty bathroom window glass. We were there at the end of January, when the hotel was almost empty. We traveled as a family, though the other guests seemed mostly older adults.

My family and I have been coming to Los Cedros for years, and today we had an experience we’d never had before. We were the only guests in the whole inn. We asked to stay a little longer in our room and were told late checkout would cost 100,000, so we declined. Then we asked if we could remain on the premises for a while. The girl said we could leave the room at 11 and stay, but she seemed annoyed. At noon, my pregnant wife and I were reading while waiting for a 1:03 restaurant reservation when she told us we had to leave. She said we couldn’t stay past 12 unless we paid for late checkout. They kicked us out!!!

We handed the room back on time and asked if we could stay in the courtyard a little longer. It’s a shame, especially with the high price and the hotel empty, since we were the only guests.
