Berggasthaus - Pension Urzn

We chose the difficult trail up to the restaurant, and it was pretty darn tough. Still, it’s an awesome place with great food. The staff didn’t speak any English, but we managed to get what we wanted.

The location is beautiful, but that’s the only good thing I can say. The hotel might be fine, but unless you’ve spent the last 45 years under a stone, skip the restaurant. The food was drowned in oil and fat, heavy and completely tasteless. The only decent dish was Germknödel, though honestly, it’s a deep-frozen dessert. The meal felt like bad canteen food at mid-range restaurant prices. A huge disappointment.

Getting there is difficult because the location is poorly accessible. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable, the staff were unkind, and the water pipes were never fixed and kept making noise. Breakfast was poor, just cheese, butter, honey, and one egg if you asked. There was no coffee or tea at breakfast, no coffee or kettle in the room, and no drinking water there either.

We were invited by an acquaintance to have dinner on Gmundnerberg. The setting is amazing, with a great playground for children. The food was okay, nothing special, though the Salzburger Nockerl tasted better than the one we had in Salzburg.
