For a family with a baby or toddler, Alpen Hotel post has a lot going for it. There are baby seats and swings around the hotel, jars of baby food available, and the staff were consistently pleasant and professional. They also tried to speak English with us when we needed it. The slides were a hit with my son, and the pool and spa areas felt new and very clean. The indoor pool is on the small side, which seems fair for a hotel this size. Check opening hours, since these areas aren’t open all day. The spa is adults only except on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our massages were only okay, and the room could use some atmosphere and music. The hotel has two buildings, linked by a short underground passage that goes past rooms used for toddler activities. Our room was in the second building, where the spa and pool are too. We booked a Balcony Junior suite on the website because its floor plan showed a sliding divider between the main bed and a sofa bed, which mattered for three light sleepers. Room 116 didn’t match that layout, and the divider was in an awkward, inconvenient spot. The balcony was spacious but had no chairs, perhaps because we were there in January, and looked toward the Gunholtzlift and the back of the hotel’s other building. It was warm inside, with no thermostat we could find. Usually it was quiet, though hallway doors and children running about could be heard, just not late at night. Check-in was easy, and I was offered Prosecco. There’s a little magic carpet lift right outside, taking you up the hill toward the Gunholtzlift. You can also sled back down on the hotel’s sleds or toboggans without buying a lift ticket, which the children enjoyed. It’s a shared area, so how busy it is varies. The lift runs from 10 am to noon and 1 pm to 4 pm, under the Grunholtzlift staff. The hotel website mentions tubing, but we didn’t find any. During the midday break, we couldn’t get food at the hotel until 1:30, and there didn’t seem to be any quick options nearby, so we waited for the meal included in our rate. Food was a mixed bag for me. Dinner costs extra for coffee and sparkling water, and some dishes weren’t to my taste, like the pork belly with popcorn, so I ate quite a lot of salad. Breakfast was simple; I never saw anyone at the omelette station. They had fresh juice and prosecco, though, and it seemed they were careful not to put out more food than would be used. One more thing I missed when booking: there are no children’s programs on weekends. I’d hoped my son could join one while my husband and I had massages and time in the wellness area.

We booked our stay at the last minute from Switzerland, and after just a few minutes at the bar we decided to add another night. The hotel sits right by the lift, so there’s plenty of snow fun for children and adults. Service and attention to detail were both terrific, and the children’s gear was incredible. We loved the rooms and dinner, too. The Wagyu beef on Christmas Eve was the best meat any of us had ever had. A full 10/10, and we’ll definitely be back soon!

A small slope just outside made sledding and beginner ski practice with little kids easy, and there’s a great playroom as well. We also thought the food was great. Really good hotel, with fantastic service, especially for a stay with children.

Nicole (owner) and her husband put together outings for guests each day, including hikes and mountain biking, and even made a meal for the group after each activity. We loved the food and the children’s program. The hotel made it easy to relax, explore and enjoy a family holiday, with little details considered throughout. It was the perfect fit for us, and we’ll definitely return. Highly recommended!

We went for tea last weekend. The service was good and the hotel was clean, in a good spot for families with children. The cookies weren’t fresh, though. There was Sacherkake.
