The room was tiny, basically just a bed and toilet, with no washing machine or refrigerator, and the shower was clogged. We knew the larger room shown in other guests’ photos wasn’t available because it was marked for cleaning, so that wasn’t our complaint. Our issue was being disturbed repeatedly after we’d rented a room. Guests deserve basic respect and privacy. The three of us stayed five nights in August. With city tax, we paid an average of €188 per night, about $220. On our two-month trip through France, Germany and Austria, this was the worst value and the smallest room. The price wasn’t cheap, and the tax was extra. Apart from the city tax on the first day, the landlord came to bother us twice more, saying we should save water and electricity. We were tourists, not doing laundry. We switched off lights and taps, and only hand-washed a little underwear and the towels we needed each day, since no spare towels were provided. What were we paying for?

The parking space right beside the apartment was very handy. My husband and I stayed for 10 days and were really pleased with the central location, the amenities, and how friendly the landlady was. It’s a beautiful holiday apartment.

Right in central Bad Ischl, this is a small, clean apartment with a balcony. The soft bed was comfortable, and the soundproof windows kept out the church bells at 5:45, 6:00, 6:45 and 7:00. The owner is lovely. It’s perfectly fine as a place to sleep.

The room didn’t live up to its online description, which was a real shame. The guesthouse sits in a back courtyard, and with the neighboring houses practically touching, the balcony didn’t feel comfortable. We arrived around 8:30 pm and still had to pay the full parking charge. I didn’t find the room inviting for spending a few hours in. Maybe it works for business travelers who head out early and come back late just to sleep.
