Hotel Alpenstern

We found the hotel on Booking and didn't know about it beforehand. Getting there was a (good) trek, but worth the drive, and I've already told so many people about it. We only stayed one night for our anniversary, though I wish we'd stayed longer. Everything from the staff and design to the spa was wonderful. The room was comfortable and well appointed, the bar cocktails were great, and we enjoyed both dinner in the restaurant and the breakfast buffet. We were there before ski season, so we just enjoyed the hotel and the indoor/outdoor pool. I hope I get to go back one day.

The bar has a dance floor, which is a nice extra. Dinner was good and generous: after a full day skiing, we were full with just a main course. The à la carte menu is fairly limited, though, and when we arrived at 8 pm, the salad bar was half empty, so we skipped it. The kitchen stays open until 9.

The rooms are clean and attractive, and we liked the restaurant, spa, and pool. But sound carries badly between rooms. We were put below several children who made noise late into the night. After we asked management several times to sort it out, they couldn't resolve things and only offered another room after we suggested it. We moved at midnight, even though we'd wanted to be asleep two hours earlier. We would have appreciated some compensation, but none was offered. If you're looking for somewhere quiet, I can't recommend this hotel. The website's claim, “Finden Sie Ruhe und neue Kraft inmitten des Ski- und Wandergebietes Damüls-Mellau,” doesn't match our experience.

The restaurant was good, and the staff were really friendly and spoke English too. Our room had an incredible view. The spa was clean, cozy, and relaxing. Amazing hotel.
