That carriage ride at Achlhof has stayed with us ever since. In December 2019, while Franz was driving us, my partner proposed, and Franz surprised us with a bottle of sparkling wine to enjoy afterward. He also gave us a horseshoe and suggested hanging it upright in our first home together for good luck. We did, and it's still on our wall. Such a thoughtful man, and a memory we'll always cherish.
A lovely day on horseback, with fantastic mountain views. The horses were fit and well cared for, and the ride was great value.
The price is very reasonable, especially compared with places where you pay more for less. I highly recommend Achlhof, whether you're a beginner being led, using the riding arena, or going on a trail ride. Our ride through the mountains on sure-footed Haflingers was excellent, with beautiful views, lovely horses, and nice chats with the friendly staff. Franz clearly cares about the horses, and they were looked after well before and after we rode. We only set off once everyone could control their horse in all three gaits. I'd never done anything like that before, and it was great to be able to enjoy a brisk gallop.
Our daughter is 10 and spent seven days riding with Franz during our holiday in early August. She had a wonderful time, learned a lot, and wished she could have ridden for longer. The horses are so sweet, and the local trail is a fantastic idea. I started riding 37 years ago and have met plenty of instructors through courses, exams, and riding clubs. Nearly all were strict at times. Horses are living beings and can react in ways inexperienced riders, especially children, don't expect, so that strictness can help prevent dangerous situations. We're already looking forward to seeing Franz and the horses again! 😁
We had a lovely stay in the holiday apartment. It was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed, plus a covered southeast-facing balcony with a wonderful view over the mountains and farm. The horses are calm and keen, and you can tell they've had excellent training and a horse-friendly life. I had a great time riding the local trails with the children, and the mountain rides were beautiful. We definitely want to return.
