Apartements Richlegghof

We spent a week at Richlegghof in March 2024, and it was one of my best stays in Austria, though I’ve been here many times. We stayed in two apartments, one for six people and a smaller one for two. Both were very well equipped, and we were comfortable all week. Many thanks to family Hartl for their hospitality. The house sits in a beautiful, quiet meadow among trees, with lovely mountain views, especially of Bischofsmütze. Family Hartl look after horses and cows at their Bauernhof, and there are friendly cats who sometimes come by. You can order fresh farm milk and eggs, which I recommend, or have bread delivered to the house. We came for skiing and cross-country skiing, and found what we wanted in Filzmoos-Neuberg and the Pongau region. We visited Obertauern, Hochkönig (Mühlbach), Zauchensee, and Filzmoos for skiing, all within 5-35 minutes by car. We also went to Gnadenalm and, especially, Höhenloipe Roßbrand in Filzmoos for cross-country skiing. I went twice and my friend went four times. Roßbrand probably had the best conditions in the region that time of year, with a bad winter and snow problems almost everywhere else. The nearest cross-country trail is close to the house when there’s enough snow, though there wasn’t during our stay. I bet Filzmoos is a cross-country highlight in full winter. I also loved the small but super-nice local ski resort, with beautiful nature and views and hardly any crowds. There’s plenty to do around here. For wellness, I recommend Therme Amade in nearby Altenmarkt, especially after physical activity, though it can get crowded during school holidays. Filzmoos also has a quieter local wellness spot. It’s simple, with one pool and 2-3 saunas, but I recommend it if you don’t need luxury. A couple of downsides: this may not suit you if you want to be in the middle of everything, close to downtown, slopes, après-ski, services, and shops. You’ll need a car or a longer walk down the hill and especially back up to the bus stop, about 10-15 minutes from the nearest bus stop or ski lift. Also, the only access road to the house might be challenging when there’s a lot of snow or ice, though I’m sure our hosts have ways to keep it accessible, since they live there too. For anyone who knows what they want and is looking for a peaceful place with warm hospitality and beautiful views, I’d give this stay 5/5 in all categories. Richlegghof has all that and more.
