Hotel Zollner

The three-course menu was excellent value, and the dining room has lovely views. We went for lunch with local friends and found the ingredients very good, with everything skillfully prepared. The service was very good too. We’ll definitely return.

The food is okay, but getting attention from the staff can be so frustrating that I’d rather skip the place. They seem focused on groups and conferences, and if you visit while those are there, you may be ignored or forgotten. It’s happened to me three times over five years, and most of my friends in Villach have had the same experience. The hotel restaurant has been nicely updated, but it still falls short on basic restaurant service. There are plenty of quality places around Faaker See, so there’s no need to try to catch their attention here.

The setting is perfect, the service is excellent, and it’s the best spot around. The wine cellar is excellent too. So why only three stars? The owner’s wife is arrogant and controlling, and makes you feel unwelcome.

It feels more like staying at someone’s home than at a hotel, and the staff are amazing. The bathroom could use better curtains.
