A shame, because the hotel is in a good spot in the city center. The friendly staff and decent breakfast were positives, but they couldn't make up for the problems in this supposedly 4-star hotel. My room on the second floor badly needed renovation. The carpet was old, extremely dirty, and smelled bad. The walls looked moldy and had stains, especially in the corners. The bathroom mirror cabinet light wouldn't switch on because its plastic cover had melted. The shower head was heavily scaled, and the bathroom had neither a window nor ventilation. The old curtains were dusty and smelled, too. On the first night, I even had to remove bugs.

The breakfast buffet was tasty, and while it wasn't huge, it was enough for us. It would be nice to have egg dishes as well. Downstairs, the bar serves enormous, delicious ice cream sundaes, though the staff could be more attentive and friendlier. Being right in the village center is a real plus, and there's plenty of free parking directly in front. Our room was clean, but the furnishings were very old. The toilet door was broken, and the mattresses were worn out and uncomfortable, with the springs easy to feel. We mentioned the limescale on the shower head on our first morning, but it still hadn't been dealt with after three nights.

The bar and its outdoor seating are right under the windows, so we could hear drunk guests shouting until well past midnight. The rooms on the second floor are completely outdated, smelled musty, and brown water came from the tap. Unacceptable. I can't give it a better rating, and this definitely isn't a 3-star hotel.

We were thrilled with the delicious ice cream at the bar, and the manager and staff were super nice. Our double room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was okay, and the bar was nice too. We'd come back.

We treated ourselves to the Italian snack this time, and it was simply delicious. The wines are excellent, and the service is superb. It's always a pleasure to spend an evening at what is simply the best bar in Friesach. TOP.
